Story: ‘Where are you from?’

When I first started interacting with this one particular group of people, I had very some interesting interactions. I had one of them ask me where I was from – fairly common question for someone like me (brown). I always answer Oxnard, but that most recently I lived in New York. But of course that’s not what they meant. I usually try to make it difficult for them to ask what it is that they are asking. Anyways, the person was asking what my ethnicity was. So I told him I was Indian and Indian – my dad is from India and my mom is Native American. So they said OH! So you’re dots and feathers!!! And so I smiled.
